Ushering in Black History month, is Nylon Magazine’s ‘The Body Beautiful Issue’. The issue which features 5 black models Diana Veras, Ezinma, Zuri Tibby, Ari Fitz and Gabrielle Richardson interviews the girls on body image in the world of fashion.
Here’s a clip of what they had to say;
“I think everyone needs to push someone who looks like them, so that they can be like, shit, maybe I can do that someday.”
“Fashion and branding now want to hear stories,so people are able to step out of this beautiful facade and show who they really are.”
“It makes me really happy that people can look in a magazine or commercial and see somebody that looks like them.”
“I never saw anyone like myself on film or TV, a black queer woman who is masculine and comfortable within herself. so in my projects I try to tell her 13-year-old self that she’s okay.”
“It doesn’t matter who thinks you’re beautiful, because if you think you are beautiful, then you got it.”
